Fun, crazy, near-apocalyptic novel centered around worship of giant squids. It’s that sort of book. 🙂
I’m a little on the fence about what to say about this book. Loved the first third. Was completely confused by the middle. And by the end, felt like a bit of a chore to finish.
Still, it’s such an inventive story, with such memorable themes, and the characters are vividly drawn and unique, so overall I liked it — enough to pick up another book by Mieville, The City and the City, to read next.

The City and the City is a rough read. I prefer his earlier fantasy over the eastern European police procedural. He does have an actual science fiction novel coming soon though.
If you haven’t read them yet, Perdido Street Station and The Scar were great books.
I really enjoyed The City and the City. A lot. First Mieville book I read and was intrigued enough that I want to read the rest of his books. Kraken sounds like another interesting premise that was maybe a little hard for the writer to maintain? Looking forward to reading it though.
