I Love You, Beth Cooper, by Larry Doyle

Picked up this book as a recommendation from EW Magazine (piece of JOL trivia you don’t care about is that this & the Economist are the two magazines we subscribe to). Written by Larry Doyle, longtime Simpsons writer & producer, it’s a coming-of-age novel about graduation night, a nerd who thinks he’s in love with one of the popular girls (Beth Cooper), and a bunch of teenage angst. Think of it as Fast Times At Ridgemont High for the new millennium. It’s a fun summer read — nothing super-deep, but a pretty funny series of escalating adventures. I probably wouldn’t have picked it up if it hadn’t been a Simpsons writer, and think I’d probably pass on it while it’s still in expensive hardback, but it’s a fun book for an airplane or the beach or something.
